Read A Million words In wales AT THORNHILL primary

From the start of 2007 we as a school have been taking part in the Read A Million Words In Wales challenge. We have taken part in various challenges and activities such as The Three Legged Cat competition, designing a Superhero, clue finding, detective work, designing Wordmobiles and many more. In April we wrapped the school in the story Lizzie Dripping. A photographer came to the school and took a photograph which appeared in the Capital Times. Our hard work has meant that the school was awarded a grant of £250. At the moment we are trying to match each teacher up with their favourite book. Here are some of the things the children did on their PPA sessions: Year1 grew words from cress seeds, Year 2 made Story Webs, Year 3 made a Fairy Tale Dictionary, Year 4 made up collective nouns, Year 5 made a proverb path and Year 6 have launched a school magazine.

STOP PRESS!!
In December, we reached our target of 1 000 000 words and were granted Champion School status for all our hard work. Pupils from Year 6 were invited to meet the writer Mick Gower as part of the celebration. The children visited the Howardian Centre to hear Mick tell some stories and returned with RMWW gifts.
