Of the many good causes being run from our community, possibly the most amazing is the work undertaken by Rwanda Restored, a registered charity run by local man Geoff Lane.

In September 2005 a huge project to build a secondary school in Kigali began, supported by Rwanda Restored and voluntary donations from individuals, schools and churches. When the project is completed there will be facilities for more than 1,000 pupils to have the opportunity for a secondary education.

This will be no ordinary school; it will be a fully residential school with catering facilities, dormitories and sick bay. Many of the pupils will be orphans of genocide and/or AIDS. You may recall the tragic events in 1994 when more than 1 million people were slaughtered in what will be recorded as one of the worst atrocities of all time.

This project is a massive undertaking, the total cost of which will be £500,000.

The school is being built in 6 stages, the first of which is due for completion in October 2007. Rwanda Restored urgently needs help to raise £107,000 to ensure that the initial stage can be completed for the school to open in January 2008.

This is a truly incredible project, because of its size and the huge benefit that pupils will have from
receiving a proper education to give them a chance of being self-sufficient by securing employment.

Rwanda Restored very much needs support to achieve its goal and is asking you to help in any way you can. Maybe you could help with fundraising activities at your school, church or place of work? Perhaps you are a member of a charity which could be able to assist? Please give some thought to building hope, purpose and dignity into young people in Rwanda.

You can find out more about the work being done in Africa by contacting Geoff lane or visiting www.rwanda-restored.com.
