Following the extensive damage caused by the recent fire at the Medical Centre, the Partnership has been leading the way on the road towards recovery. The events of recent weeks have not stifled their commitment or determination and their intention is to restore the fire damaged building as soon as possible and in the meantime continue to provide high standards of healthcare services to patients.
The Partnership, together with the Practice staff and professional advisors have already begun developing plans for a new, state of the art healthcare facility. It is anticipated that the remaining fire damaged structure will be demolished by early October with the re-build commencing in early 2008.
Current service provision
Fortunately, having separate Practice premises at 67 Thornhill Road resulted in medical services being available to patients the day after the fire. Following the installation of new telephone lines and additional computer terminals, a full appointment based service resumed on Monday September 17th. Patients are requested to make appointments by telephone on 02920 750322. Lines open at 8.15 each morning.
Regular updates are available on the Practice website which you can visit at: www.northcardiffmedicalcentre.com.
Temporary accommodation
A planning application has been submitted to Cardiff City Council for a temporary surgery, close to the original Medical Centre in Thornhill. It is anticipated that this will open in November, allowing the restoration of virtually all Practice services. The temporary surgery will need to be occupied for a period of 12-18 months during the reconstruction of the original building.
North Cardiff Health Forum Event
The North Cardiff Health Forum event on Wednesday 3rd October will go ahead as planned at the Thornhill Community Centre. The programme includes a number of interesting presentations relating to ‘Healthy Lifestyles and Diabetes’ and will now also include an update on plans for the re-development of North Cardiff Medical Centre together with information about current services and the temporary accommodation.
The Practice would like to thank all patients for their patience and kind wishes at this difficult time.
