HEATWAVE TO HIT MERMAID QUAY?

Forget grey skies, freezing temperatures and snow bound mornings, things are going to get hot, hot, hot down at Mermaid Quay this half term (15 – 21 February), when Cardiff’s waterfront shopping and leisure destination gives itself over to a tropical Caribbean party.

Whatever the weather, Mermaid Quay is going to be doing its bit to banish the winter blues.   During the week you’ll be able to warm up to the sunny sounds of a Trinidad-style steel drum band playing traditional Caribbean as well as contemporary music – guaranteed to get your feet tapping.

The quayside will be decked out with deck chairs, flags and a beach hut and there will be a special treasure hunt for the kids.

Plus there will be fire dancing, stilt walking palm trees and limbo dancers.   And, on Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 February, check out the surf machine – how long can you stay on?

And, of course, there are all Mermaid Quay’s great shops, restaurants, cafés and bars to visit too.  There’s plenty of opportunities for pampering and partying, relaxing, reviving and generally treating yourselves.

Activities will be on during the day Monday – Sunday and also early evening Thursday to Sunday.   Full details & timings at www.mermaidquay.co.uk.

Winter is better by the water!

YEAR OF THE TIGER

Mermaid Quay is working with Tang Arts, a not-for-profit organization that promote traditional Chinese art and culture, to celebrate the start of the Chinese year of the Tiger (13 & 14 February) with a fantastic display of colourful traditional Chinese costumes inspired by the glory of Tang dynasty, traditional Chinese calligraphy and origami workshops.   Full details on the website at www.mermaidquay.co.uk.
